When I got back to the boatI thought I will check and make sure I am getting fuel from all four pipes. Remember, the injectors are removed and still at the shop.
I put little containers under the pipes and cranked the engine for about 5 seconds. I got a small amount of fuel from 3 and 4, but nothing at all from 1 and 2.
I double checked to make sure that there is no air in the system and there was not. I want to remove the injector pump and take it to the shop for diagnosis. My manual makes no mention of bringing the engine to TDC before removal of the fuel injection pump.
There are marks on the case that align with a bracket, but that's all. The three mounting bolts fit into slotted holes so the pump can be rotated a small amount each direction.
These alignment marks show where the pump should be fitted along that slot. A local diesel mechanic said that the Yanmar pumps can only be installed one way and it was impossible to put it back on wrong.
Can anyone either confirm this or correct me? Join Date: Dec YES, they can be out back wrong. Apparently in most diesels the pump is turned off the the main shat through a reduction gear. Usually this gearwhich must be pulled to remove the injector, has white index marks. Align these and all goes together fine. Guess how I know all this!

The nozzle opening pressure might be adjusted the same way. I would need to get a set of these adjusting shims myself. I just dont know where. Im sure its simple to do I have done a couple of other types. I have found the parts for pump but dont want to get into it until I can find a diagram on how to set timing marks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Line them up. Why do you think it needs rebuilding? I switch the injectors out still didnt open on 2 but will spray injectors in the 1 side of pump.
The pump has alignment marks on rack and on plungers. I just needed to know were you can get new parts for this pump. Its the older pump with bajo fitting. Will the parts from newer pump work in my pump.

You have moisture, trash, dirt, or some other contaminant in your fuel. That same fuel problem will also ruin the new pump. Moisture in the fuel will cause flash rust and damage the polished surface of the internal plungers. Dust or dirt will score the cylinders causing them to not pump or cause them to leak.
It does not take much dirt or moisture to ruin one of these pumps. Pumps ruined by fuel contamination are NOT covered under warranty. So what do you need to do? If you had a pump fail you need to start fresh.
Flush out your hoses and lines. Replace your fuel filter. You need to have fresh clean fuel up to the injection pump.
If you leave your fuel hose open while you wait on the new pump to get to you then you have dirt in the hose. You MUST get that dirt out of there before hooking up to you new pump.
